Stax Museum of American Soul Music

Today, the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, located at the original site of Stax Records, pays tribute to all of the artists who recorded there with a rare and amazing collection of more than 2,000 interactive exhibits, films, artifacts, items of memorabilia, and galleries. The museum is closed on Mondays.

Memphis Zoo

One of the country's best zoos is in Memphis. The Memphis Zoo is open daily and features more than 3,500 animals representing 500 species. It's one of only four U.S. zoos to exhibit giant pandas, and new exhibits feature polar bears, sea lions, large cats, primates and farm animals.

Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum

The Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum’s exhibition about the birth of rock and soul music, created by the Smithsonian Institution, tells the story of musical pioneers who, for the love of music, overcame racial and socio-economic barriers to create the music that shook the entire world.

Memphis Riverboats

The Memphis Riverboats' sightseeing cruises are 90 minutes of cruising excitement with the cool breezes of the river. Take a step back in time with the interesting narrative of past and present river life. A riverboat cruise is only way possible in Memphis to experience the river era of Native Americans, explorers, riverboat-men like Mark Twain and Mike Fink, highlights of local Civil War river battles, and the heritage of the Mississippi River bluffs and delta. Public sightseeing cruises run March through November: March through October: 2:30-4:00 pm daily (boarding begins at 1:30); March through August: 5:00-6:30 pm Saturday and Sunday only (boarding begins at 4:30).

Elvis Presley Birthplace and Museum**

The Elvis Presley Birthplace and Museum in Tupelo, Mississippi, allows you see, feel and touch where the king of rock ‘n’ roll began his musical journey. Walk through the modest, two-room house where Elvis was born on Jan. 8, 1935, and visit the Elvis Presley Museum, Memorial Chapel, gift shop and see the church where Elvis first started singing gospel music.

Country Music Hall of Fame & Historic RCA Studio B

Go on a journey through country music history with Sing Me Back Home, the ever-changing permanent exhibit. This includes all the things that gives country music its special place in American culture: rhinestone costumes, vintage instruments, tear-stained lyric sheets, and of course the music itself helps to tell the story. Also included is a visit to Historic RCA Studio B, once the recording home of popular music titans such as Elvis Presley, Chet Atkins, Eddy Arnold, and the Everly Brothers.
